While universities are good institutions for further education, FET Colleges also have much to offer in providing mid-level skills.

Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande, says government is working hard to change the perception that  universities are the only option for students after completing matric, SABC reports.

Speaking on Morning Live, Nzimande pointed out that while universities are good institutions for further education, FET Colleges also have much to offer in providing mid-level skills.

“We have to change because South Africa is short of many skills. Some [skills] you can get from universities, but others [such as] your mid-level skills where we have some critical and chronic shortages can only be received from colleges.”

Nzimande admits that it is going to take a great deal to convince the public about FET Colleges.
