The woman who accused Zwelinzima Vavi of rape has withdrawn her complaint.

Vavi tweeted that the woman had withdrawn her complaint after just two hours into the process.

"I can confirm that she has withdrawn the complaint, more on that matter will follow shortly from Cosatu," said Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) spokesman Patrick Craven speaking to Sapa.

When news surfaced this past weekend of rape allegations Vavi admitted to having an extramarital affair with the married woman who was employed by Cosatu, and claimed she later tried to extort him of R2 million.

Cosatu’s secretary general stood before an internal Cosatu hearing for sexual harrasment on Monday morning after the woman lodged a complaint against him.
