Vavi in court for speeding

Former Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on Monday after being caught speeding.

Former Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on Monday after being caught speeding.

Vavi was among six people arrested on Sunday for speeding.

Ekurhuleni metro police department spokesperson inspector Kobeli Mokheseng declined to confirm whether Vavi was one of those arrested.

"We arrested six speedsters on the R24 during an operation on Sunday morning.

"Four of the arrested were taken to the Edenvale police station, while the other two were taken to Bedfordview police station," he said. On Monday afternoon, Vavi took to Twitter confirming he had appeared in court for speeding.

Earlier on Monday, The Star reported Vavi had been caught driving 207km/h.
