The Management and staff of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) paid tributes to the late Mbualeni Mulaudzi.

Mulaudzi (34), died in the early hours of last Friday when his car overturned on the R555 road in Mpumalanga.

Mulaudzi, the Olympic medalist, studied Sports Management and Marketing at VUT from 2000 to 2005, he won his first gold medal in 2002 at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, bringing honor to VUT.

A university staff member Joseph Diale recruited Mulaudzi and offered him a special sports bursary in 1999.

“I first met Mulaudzi in 1999 when he was returning from Tunisia with the SA Athletics Team. I was introduced to him by the late Director of Sport Dr. Phil Matlala. After some discussions, I was extremely pleased that Mulaudzi was keen to join the top ranking university team and soon became a world champ,” said Diale.
