A 33-year-old white policeman in South Carolina, America, has been charged with murder after a cellphone video was released on Wednesday showing him fatally shooting a 55-year-old black father-of-four in the back.

Walter Scott

The incident occurred after Michael Slager pulled over Walter Scott's car because of a broken tail light. Michael can be seen shooting at Walter eight times as he runs away. Walter then falls to the ground after the last shot and Michael walks over calmly, cuffing Walter's arms behind his back.

The policeman said the suspect took his taser (electroshock weapon) and that he feared for his life. Michael faces 30 years to life in prison or the death penalty if convicted, state officials said.

Now, the parents of Walter say "justice will be served”. "The way he [Michael] was shooting that gun, it looked like he was trying to kill a deer . . . I don't know whether it was racial, or it was something wrong with his head," said Walter Sr.

In his interview with Today, Walter Scott Sr also suggested that his son ran because he owed child support.

"I believe that he didn't want to go to jail again," he said. "He just ran away."

Asked if he thought justice would be served, Walter Sr answered affirmatively. "God is in the plan . . . I believe in my heart that God is going to finish this right now."
