If you’re looking for an easy weight-loss trick, here’s a quick and cheap one: drink water before meals. A new American study found that middleaged and older adults who drank two cups of water before every meal consumed fewer kilojoules and lost more weight than those who didn’t. Researchers found that study participants who drank water before meals lost seven kilograms in 12 weeks, compared to four kilograms for those who didn’t. Researchers say thirst is often mistaken for hunger and water helps fill you up.
