A man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a couple on a farm outside George, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old was caught near the farm Kraaibosch on Tuesday evening after police were called, Captain Bernadine Steyn said.

He allegedly confronted the 69-year-old farm owner and his 65-year-old wife with a knife when they opened the door for him at 9.40pm.

He ordered the couple to go to their bedroom, and tied up the older man before taking money, two cellphones, and a modem. Then he instructed the woman to drive him off the property.

The husband untied himself and contacted police, who stopped the car on Sandkraal Road and arrested the man. The husband and wife were unhurt.

The 23-year-old, from Thembalethu outside George, was expected to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
