SABC’s isiZulu newsreader Thabile Maphanga and Sibusiso Mbhele are definitely the picture of wedded bliss!

The lovely couple tied the knot during a traditional wedding ceremony held on Saturday, 13 December, at the bride’s home at KwaMdayane, Bulwer, in  KwaZulu-Natal’s Midlands.

The three-part ceremony started on Friday. The festivities kicked off with umembeso (a traditional ceremony where the groom’s family gives the bride’s family gifts), followed by umgcagco (traditional Zulu wedding) on Saturday, and the celebration ended with the exchange of wedding bands on Sunday.

“My highlight of the day was when iphoyisa lenkosi (a traditional headman) asked ukuthi ngiyamthanda yini umfoka Mbhele. Ngathi ngenhliziyo yami yonke,” said a beaming Thabile.

“The white wedding will follow as part of our wedding anniversary. For now,  we’ve opted for umgcagco, which is another complete wedding ceremony ,” said Thabile, who is seven months pregnant.

The intimate ceremony was attended by the couple’s close friends, colleagues and family, including the groom’s family from Pimville, Soweto.
