Feeling beautiful isn't always an easy choice. Unilever's Dove has asked women across five international cities (San Francisco, Shanghai, Delhi, London and São Paulo) to rate themselves as either “beautiful” or “average”.

As part of its thought-provoking new ad campaign Dove asked women if they had to enter a building through a door that said “beautiful” or one that said “average”, which one would they choose?

“Feeling beautiful is a personal choice women should feel empowered to make for themselves, every day,” said the skincare company.

But, as their experiment proved, many women allow themselves to be influenced by how others see them, or their own insecurities. Most of the women who participated, particularly those who showed up on their own, chose to walk through the “average” door.
