Have you joined Mysmartkid yet? If you’re looking for age-appropriate toys, the tools and activities to help prepare your child for school and expert advice on childhood development, this is just the place for you. And their Smartbox is just one more reason to go and have a look at their website.

As a member of Mysmartkid you will receive a Smartbox every two months. It is jampacked with a variety of age-appropriate, easy-to-use educational tools, toys and products, together with a full colour newsletter brimming with information and advice to help your child reach those important development milestones. The age groups work like this:

  • 0-1: A newborn child is focused on adjusting to life outside the womb. As they start to feel a little more ‘at home’ in their new environment, their senses will become much sharper and they begin to seek out ever more stimulating experiences. The Mysmartkid Smartbox provides parents of babies from birth to 1 year with expert guidance and curated products that encourage your little one to use their senses, which stimulates your child’s brain to build connections and establish a wide network of neural pathways.
  • 1-2: Between the ages of 1 and 2, your mini munchkin will be going mobile! And with so much more to explore, your toddler is going to have an unbelievably busy year wondering “what”, “how”, “why”, and “what if”. You’ll soon see them trying to figure these things out on their own – a very important part of developing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • 2-3: Now that your child is between 2 and 3 years old, you’ll notice that they’re beginning to form their own thoughts and ideas about the objects and people they encounter! Your child will be mimicking everyday activities in their imaginary games with their first playmates. And by the end of this year, matching six basic colours and shapes should be no problem at all for your little tot!
  • 3-4: Perhaps the word that best describes your little one between the age of 3 and 4 is curiosity. There’s just so much to see and do and, thanks to your toddler’s fast developing language skills, they’re now able to put all those thoughts and ideas into words and ask plenty of questions – about absolutely everything they see and hear! Your child’s improved listening skills and understanding of spoken information will enable them to listen attentively and even retell simple stories.
  • 4-5: By the time your child reaches 5 years of age, they will be starting to develop the skills required for reading and writing. Creatively speaking, your child will start discovering their own creative ‘style’ as they begin to draw rounded human figures, animals, plants, possibly a line on the horizon between the ground and sky. Every day your young one will face different challenges that teach them about problem-solving and critical thinking. This will also mean, however, that you’ll soon start to see them getting more independent as they come up with their own solutions.
  • 5-6: By the time your little one turns 6, he or she will be an active, independent little person with ideas and opinions of their own! Your child will be able to understand everyday conversations and they’ll be developing the important ability to think critically. This capacity to reason will help them make plans and solve problems all on their own. When playing with other children, your child will be able to cooperate easily, take part in group activities and help make group decisions. Your little one is learning that written letters can represent spoken sounds, and that numerals can indicate numbers and quantities.
