After months of speculation after an announcement that Xfactor is coming to South Africa the judges have been finally revealed.

The show that gave worldwide stardom to artists Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis and One Direction will see musician and songwriter Zonke Dikana being the only female judge along with legendary Kalawa Jazmee label owner Oskido and musician Arno Carstens.

“What I am looking for in the contestants is originality and ability to capture the audience. That’s the X Factor for me,” Zonke said during her interview at the launch. “Having been in the industry for almost three decades I think I know a thing or two about what makes a star,” joked Oskido who is the mastermind behind successful acts such as Boom Shaka, Brickz, Mafikizolo, Trompies and Uhuru.

Arno Carstens said for him the X Factor is about showing that as much as you can sing and perform you have that extra edge that no one else has. “That little extra, that is what I am after.”

The show, which is an extension of the initial brand of X Factor, which was started by Simon Cowell in 2004 in the UK, has over 40 versions shown in different countries worldwide. The South Africa version will be hosted by host television personality Andile Ncube, who joked about how when he initially was approached he was asked to audition and now Simon Cowell knows his name. “I just want to put it out there Simon Cowell knows my name!”, he laughed.

The show will be based in Durban, a first for South Africa and will start broadcast on the 6th of September on SABC1.
