Xenophobia: Sophie Ndaba speaks out

She’s one of Mzansi’s most famous faces - and ?was raised in Zimbabwe. Sophie Ndaba weighs in on xenophobia.

In the past few weeks a wave of xenophobic violence has spread from Durban to Johannesburg.

Shops were burnt down and looted, people were killed and there were widespread clashes with police.The violence is thought to have started when a Durban business allegedly replaced local staff with foreign nationals.

South African businesswoman and actress Sophie Ndaba knows what it’s like to be a stranger in a strange land: she grew up in Zimbabwe and if it wasn’t for the way Zimbabweans welcomed her, she says, she’d never have gotten where she is today.
