The Durban High Court has convicted and sentenced Sandile Nkosinathi Xulu (29) to 10 years in prison for kidnapping, and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Xulu was sentenced to five years imprisonment for kidnapping and another five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Last year police apprehended Xulu after he attacked a 19-year-old woman and her boyfriend on Musa Road in KwaMashu. While the boyfriend managed to escape, the female victim was taken to a nearby hostel. Following a tip-off, police found the Xulu with the woman in the hostel and arrested him, and later discovered an unlicensed fire arm concealed under the bed.

It was discovered that Xulu was already a wanted suspect for an armed robbery case which had been reported to Greenwood Park SAPS and Xulu was arrested and charged with kidnapping and possession of unlicensed firearm. He made several court appearances until he was sentenced.

“The sentence handed down to Xulu will send a clear message to like-minded would-be offenders that the police will trace, arrest and successfully prosecute them,” said the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
