Mzansi Magic has decided to call it a day with one if its formerly popular programmes, Zabalaza.

Sunday Sun reports that the show has been canned due to low viewership which has reportedly dropped from 700 000 to 200 000 viewers.

The weekly also reported that the canning came as a suprise to the actors, who include Nonhle Tema, Baby Cele and Rosie Motene, and crew who were part of the production.

The paper also alleges that writers had been running low on creative juices when it came to storylines and generating interest in the show's characters.

"Executive producers decided to change the script but still failed dismally. They started writing on their onw, but they ran out of ideas and couldn't attract viewers," a source told the paper.

Apparently actors such as Manaka Ranaka saw this coming and this is why she opted to swap Zabalaza's set for Generations: The Legacy's.

A statement released by the channel announced that the show would come to an end in April 2016 but did not mention any of the alleged troubles outlined by Sunday Sun

"We're proud of the success enjoyed by Zabalaza in its three-year run. It's been a privilege having a show like Zabalaza in our stable," Nkateko Mabaso, Director of Local Interest Channels at MNet said.

We must say, we didn't see this coming.
