From the word go, DRUM has captured  singer Zahara and her meteoric rise to fame. Now on her sophomore album, 'Phendula', the songbird couldn’t be happier after the album was recently certified double platinum, which in hard-copy sales translates to more than 80 000 copies.

As a gesture, to acknowledge her relationship with DRUM, Zahara together with an entourage of record company representatives came to the DRUM offices in Johannesburg to present the magazine with a platinum disc.

Editor Makhosazana Zwane-Siguqa accepted the disc on behalf of the magazine.

“I feel blessed,” said Zahara who also brought her producers Robbie Malinga and Mjakes Thebe along.

“This just shows people love my music. The truth is [that] the sales are in excess of 80 000. We have to go with 80 000 because those are certified figures. But really I just want to express my gratitude for the fans. The fact that they also voted me as their DRUM Darling last year. "

"I’m also chuffed by the reception my new album is receiving. Out on shows I was a bit worried people were going to demand 'Loliwe'… but 'Phendula' which is the first single off the album is what they always cry for. It just shows the fans are willing to grow with me as an artist," said the singer.

Zahara will be shooting a video with Ladysmith Black Mambazo for her song 'Rise Again' off  'Phendula'. The album also received three nominations for the upcoming Metro FM Music Awards. - by Mpho Tshikhudo
