Hours before the announcement of Nelson Mandela's death, his daughter Zindzi seemed unaware of a change in his health.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela died peacefully at his Johannesburg home on Thursday (December 5) after a prolonged lung infection, President Jacob Zuma said.

Zindzi talked to reporters on the red carpet for the Royal Film Performance of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. When asked if he had seen the film yet, she replied "He has only seen clips. We're hoping to show him

And, when asked how he was doing, she replied  "He's fine, thank you. He's just old."

The film, which stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris as Nelson and Winnie Mandela, chronicles Mandela's life from his childhood through to his election as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

Zindzi Mandela explained that watching the film was a bittersweet experience, saying, "Certain instances in my life and episodes that I didn't confront and the movie just brought everything back, you know.

"So it was quite painful.  Some parts were painful, some were quite a celebration."
