A neglected and rundown home belonging to Nelson Mandela’s daughter is attracting rats and lots of controversy

The leafy suburb of Houghton in Johannesburg is synonymous with former president Nelson Mandela.

The media camped out on its manicured sidewalks for weeks as Madiba clung to life in his home there, and thousands of people gathered in the

street outside the house for days to pay their respects after he passed away.

Now Houghton is in the news again, and again a Mandela is involved – but this time the reasons are very different.

Zindzi Mandela, the youngest daughter of Madiba and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, also owns a home in this wealthy northern Joburg enclave – and the property is causing the neighbours plenty of headaches.
