Miraculously the Durban rain that has fallen steadily for two days lifts suddenly – almost like an omen of good fortune – as a gleaming white Porsche Panamera glides up to the open-air chapel.

Hundreds of guests wait expectantly as Zizi Kodwa (42), immaculate in a tailored grey suit and matching waistcoat and smiling from ear to ear, steps out and walks down an aisle strewn with rose petals.

His favourite song, Giving Myself Over to You by Jennifer Hudson, can be heard from the speakers as Zizi, President Jacob Zuma’s communications advisor, nods to guests.

The guest list comprises the who’s who of politicsand business in South Africa.

Not surprisingly this society wedding is crawling with security for the illustrious gathering, which includes President Zuma, police minister Nathi Mthethwa, sports minister Fikile Mbalula, presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj and many more.

Even suspended national police commissioner Bheki Cele and his wife Thembeka are there to witness Zizi and Zama’s day of bliss.

The radiant bride, Zama Ngubane (25), arrives in a Rolls-Royce Phantom dressed in an off-white, body-hugging gown with silver diamanté detail.

They exchange vows under a tent pitched on the edge of a lake in Durban’s beautiful Botanical Gardens.

Afterwards President Zuma and his entourage wish the happy couple good luck and apologise for being unable to attend the three-course buffet spread under a vast marquee.

They disappear in a convoy of cars to another engagement while the guests make their way to the wedding feast.
