Zone 14 stars’ personal heartache

STALKERS, drug dealers, bomakhwapheni (secret lovers), rape accusers and schemers... Things certainly started off with a bang on our favourite TV soccer drama, Zone 14.

We’re not even halfway into the popular SABC1 drama series, which now airs on both Mondays and Wednesdays at 8.30 pm, and the Molois and the Sibiyas already have us hooked. So far King and Nina’s enduring romance seems to be the only bit of good news – but will it last?

Thembi Seete and Patrick Mofokeng, who play the lovers, have taken a break from shooting scenes near Soweto to chat to DRUM about the characters they’ve been playing for five years. But both of them also open up exclusively about the private heartache they manage to hide so well. Patrick had to bury his only sister earlier this year after she died of Aids, while Thembi has just lived through an unbearable six months as she waited to hear the final outcome of her beloved mom’s operations to remove a brain tumour.

However, when the two posed for our photoshoot, all we saw were the seasoned actors Zone 14 fans have come to know and love.
