Zuma confirms Madiba’s burial date

President Jacob Zuma has confirmed that Nelson Mandela's funeral will take place on the 15th of December in Qunu.

President  Jacob Zuma has confirmed that Nelson Mandela's funeral will take place on the 15th of December in Qunu, Eastern Cape.

The world was sad at the news of passing of the world icon, who was South Africa’s first democratically elected president.

Messages from all over the poured in, consoling the family and South Africans, from celebrities and ordinary countrymen.

Madiba passed away at his Houghton home in Johannesburg on the night of 5 December 2013.  He was 95.

Over the next nine days there will be a number of events taking place around the country leading up to the funeral.

Zuma  announced that  8  December will be recognised as the national day of prayer and reflection.  Zuma urged South Africans from all religions to take time out to pray and reflect on that day.

A memorial service would be held at FNB Stadium in Johnnesburg on 10December.
