President Jacob Zuma will work from home after his discharge from hospital following a gallstone operation.

President Jacob Zuma will work from home after his discharge from hospital following a gallstone operation.

"The president will spend the next few days resting and recuperating at home. He will also work from home during this period," presidency spokesperson Bongani Majola said in a statement.

Zuma was discharged from hospital on Sunday, with doctors pleased with the outcome of the operation.

Zuma was admitted to hospital on Saturday for the operation, after the gallstones were discovered during a routine check-up around two months ago.

The presidency said the procedure was not done immediately because of his schedule.

"The period of recess in Parliament and Cabinet provided an opportunity to have the procedure done.

"The presidency wishes the president well and a speedy recovery," he said.

Zuma was admitted to a Pretoria hospital last year for routine tests and was advised to rest after a busy election and transition to his new administration.

The presidency said Zuma has two major medical examinations a year, the first in January and the second in June.
