My Perfect Proposal and internet streaming service Showmax give you an inside look at popping the big question.

If you thought that choreographer and Club 808 star Bontle Modiselle and her rapper boyfriend Priddy Ugly (real name Ricardo Moloi) rushed to the altar in early August, you’re not alone. They popped up in rap group LaSauce and Amanda Black’s wedding-themed music video I Do and got over 1 million YouTube hits.

But guess again! The couple are still on cloud 9, enjoying their engagement in July this year. And that’s because a lot of thought, work and effort goes into proposing and asking your squeeze if they’d like to be your life bae. You want to enjoy that glow after she says “yes!”

And that’s what makes My Perfect Proposal one of Mzansi’s most loved and most watched shows – viewers want to know all about popping the question… and having the guts to do it on national TV!

It’s not just about competing with the other couples for who did it best, explain hosts Dineo Moeketsi and Lebogang “Shugasmakx” Mothibe. “These lovers get to experience the most unforgettable proposal of their lives,” says Dineo, adding that anyone can feature on the show. “People write in, explaining their perfect proposals and we help them declare their love with the rest of the country watching.”

No two couples are the same, adds Dineo. “We plan epic proposals. They are cute and romantic and put the love in the air! We are with them every step of the way!” That includes filming, buying the ring, setting up the unsuspecting partner “and making sure we get it all on tape,” says Shugasmakx.

 MAKING THE FIRST MOVE

Season 1 of My Perfect Proposal can be streamed from Showmax or downloaded at a Wi-Fi hotspot and watched later at home.

Here are a couple of fun episodes available in the first season…

Episode 1 sees hopeless romantic Willy wooing his girlfriend Morongwa by getting her heart racing – he plans a bungee jump for two from the Orlando Towers in Soweto to take “that leap of faith with the love of my life”.

In episode 8, young lovers Elias and Basetsana have only been together for a year and are still studying, but Elias is a student of romance and recites a love poem for his lady before proposing during a romantic lunch.

And for episode 11, Wade goes down on bended knee after giving his girlfriend Cashey 94 roses. “One for every month we’ve been together,” says Wade, who is a recovering alcoholic and adds that Cashey has been through thick and thin with him and he wants to “repay her for the love she has given me”.
