ANC disappoints Sebokeng residents with no-show

2014-02-08 20:50

Johannesburg - Residents of Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg, were left disappointed when ANC chairperson Baleka Mbete did not show up for the door-to-door campaign on Saturday.

"We expected Baleka to come here and convince us why we should vote for ANC," said disgruntled resident Lehlohonolo Tlali.

"Sebokeng has so many problems and lately there were protest marches but it looks like our leaders do not care about our votes."

Most residents at Beverly High School, where voting registration was taking place, said the African National Congress took voters for granted this voting season.

"ANC act like they have won the elections and the race has not even begun," said Norma Mokwena.

Most residents expected top ANC leadership to come to Sebokeng to address them as part of the election campaign.

Earlier, African National Congress spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said Mbete could not attend the door-to-door campaign because she had to attend a funeral.
