Johannesburg - The outcome of the 2014 general elections shows the ANC's support base is "rock solid", secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Sunday.

"The results of our work are qualitatively and quantitatively felt and appreciated by our people over a period of time," he told reporters at Luthuli House, Johannesburg.

"The people of South Africa have once again given us an overwhelming mandate to continue with the work we started... in 1994."

Mantashe said the party was recommitted to building the country and addressing issues in areas where people had voiced concerns.
