Pretoria - The DA and new boys on the block EFF were contesting the post of official opposition to the ANC in the North West on Thursday night.
At 21:38, results from the Electoral Commission of SA's (IEC) national results centre showed the Democratic Alliance and Economic Freedom Fighters were separated by 192 votes. Ninety-seven percent of votes in the province had been counted.
The DA had 134 837 votes (12.88%) against the EFF's 134 645 votes (12.87%).
The African National Congress, set to win the province, had 706 033 votes (67.47%).
