EFF Afrikaner held for fraud

Johannesburg - EFF member Wiekus Kotze was arrested for fraud in Alberton, on the east Rand, early Thursday morning, the party said.

Neither the police nor the hawks could immediately confirm Kotze's arrest.

Economic Freedom Fighters Gauteng spokesperson Patrick Sindane said in a statement members of the party would support Kotze when he appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court later on Thursday.

"We view this as nothing but the abuse of state machinery and power by certain individuals to settle political scores," he said.

Kotze reportedly caused a stir on social media earlier this year, being labelled a traitor by some in the Afrikaans community.

"They told me I was an idiot, a fool, that I was sucking up to black people, that I was a traitor betraying my white skin," the Saturday Star quoted Kotze as saying.
