EFF meeting with Tshwane over use of stadium

2014-05-02 14:07
Johannesburg - A meeting between the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the City of Tshwane regarding the use of Lucas Moripe Stadium was under way in Pretoria on Friday, the party said.

"The meeting is still on. The rally will continue on Sunday, as scheduled. Nothing in the meeting can stop the rally," said spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

He said an update would be provided later on Friday afternoon.

The city cancelled the EFF application to use the stadium in Atteridgeville for its final election rally, after the party apparently failed to attend a scheduled meeting of the joint operations committee to present its full operational safety and event plans, as required by the Sports and Recreational Events Act.

In terms of the conditions of use and rental of the stadium, all parties are required to provide the city with the appropriate approvals to cover crowd control, emergency medical service on site and transportation, an appropriate security operation plan and disaster management plan, among others.

The EFF took the council to court after it cancelled a provisional agreement concluded with the EFF, on 23 April, for hiring the stadium.
