EFF takes City of Tshwane to court

2014-04-29 11:22

Pretoria - The EFF will approach the North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday to challenge a decision by the City of Tshwane to withdraw permission for the use of the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

"The municipality denied us a venue," Economic Freedom Fighters spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said.

The party wanted the city to abide by its initial decision.

The municipality initially granted the EFF permission to use the stadium in Atteridgeville for its election rally on 4 May, but then withdrew it.

At first the city said a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match was to be held there but the PSL agreed to move their match, said Ndlozi.

"The municipality then granted the EFF permission to use the stadium," he said.

"EFF paid for the stadium and signed the lease agreement. Posters were printed and buses for EFF supporters were paid, including other logistical requirements."

He said the municipality then sent the party a note on Friday indicating that permission had been withdrawn because maintenance work would be carried out at the stadium on 4 May.

City spokesperson Blessing Manale could not be reached for comment.
