Durban - The IFP on Monday denied media reports that party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi had been rushed to hospital.
"The IFP president is in good health and during the past week went for a routine medical check-up," said Inkatha Freedom Party chairperson Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi.
"Contrary to these malicious media allegations, the IFP president spent this past weekend at his residence at Mahlabathini."
Zulu language newspaper Ilanga reported that Buthelezi was not well and had been rushed to hospital.
She called on "all media outlets to refrain from sensational, unfounded reporting which can lead to stress and duress amongst IFP members and supporters..."
Senior IFP leader Blessed Gwala told Sapa he was with Buthelezi at the IFP's national executive committee meeting in Durban and that he would leave for Cape Town on Monday afternoon.
"He is here with me right now. He is fine. We are really shocked about what has been reported in the media."
