Nkandla now a political report - Mantashe

2014-03-16 21:50

Parys - The African National Congress does not have any expectations from the Nkandla report due to be released by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Sunday.

"We do not have any expectations from it. It has now become a political report and we will handle it as such," Mantashe said after attending a church service in Tumahole township in Parys, Free State.

He had earlier addressed the AME church congregation as part of the party's election campaign.

Madonsela is expected to release the report on Wednesday following her investigation into the security upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla homestead.

The ANC expected most of the information in the report to be the same, he said.

"There might be findings in the report that might be sensational, but we expect the same information from what has been said."

Last year, the Mail & Guardian newspaper published a leaked draft provisional Nkandla report, which found that Zuma had misled Parliament, and recommended that he pay back the money spent on the upgrades.

Mantashe said the ruling party would receive the report "as it is" and look at it before deciding on the way forward.

The ANC planned to invite the media to Nkandla "so that they can see for themselves" after the report was released, he said.
