Johannesburg - Henley Road in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, has been blocked off to traffic in front of the SABC building, metro police said on Wednesday.

"The road will be closed for as long as necessary for security reasons," Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

"Motorists can use University Road as an alternative route."

The road closure, from 06:00 on Wednesday onward, was likely to be in place until the voting count had been finalised.

The purpose was to ensure the safe ferrying of control sheets containing election results, which were transported to the SABC, Minnaar said.

All voting stations should be open from 07:00 and close at 21:00.
