DA, EFF have kissed and made up in Joburg - Mashaba

Johannesburg - The leader of the DA caucus in the Johannesburg City Council, Herman Mashaba, says the party has ironed out its differences with the EFF.

The EFF is expected to vote in favour of Mashaba as mayor of the city during proceedings on Monday.

"I am hopeful I will emerge as mayor after this meeting," Mashaba said.

Last week, the EFF voiced its reservations about Mashaba, initially saying it would only support the DA in its bid for power in the city on condition that Mashaba was not its choice for mayor. The party has since conceded, claiming Mashaba was not its preferred candidate, but that there was nothing it could do if the DA wanted to put him forward.

Mashaba said he had reached a compromise with the red berets.

"The EFF knows I started off as a humble black business man and they know I will prioritise poor communities," he said.
