Pretoria - Shells of what used to be commuter buses are lined up in the streets of Mamelodi as residents strip them for scrap metal.

This is what can be seen in one of the photographs of Tshwane taken from a helicopter around 17:00 on Tuesday, following violent protests against the ANC's nomination of its mayoral candidate.

There appeared to be few police officers present as fires continued to burn along the roads.

In Atteridgeville, the entrance to a Shell garage was blocked. Large groups of residents were gathered along the roads.
