Pretoria - ANC President Jacob Zuma says people should not vote for independent candidates as that would be a wasted vote.
"Don't vote for them. They left the organisation thinking they are popular. No one is [more] popular than the organisation," Zuma told party supporters in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday.
"Don't be misled by people who are half ANC; people who leave the organisation because they can't get positions."
Zuma was accompanied by David Makhura, Nomvula Mokonyane, Thoko Didiza, Fikile Mbalula, Mapiti Matsena and Kgosientso Ramokgopa. He spent the day in the north of Tshwane going on door-to-door visits and talking to party supporters, as part of campaigning for the August 3 local government elections.
He called on supporters in Hammanskraal and Winterveldt not to follow parties that did not win elections.
"The only thing they want is to be called honourable member in Parliament. They will never win," he said.
