Los Angeles - Actor Marlon Brando on Monday reached a tentative settlement agreement in a lawsuit brought against him by his former personal assistant over a financial dispute, court officials said.
The agreement is expected to be finalised in about two months.
The lawsuit was brought by Caroline Barrett, who worked for Brando from 1976 to 2001.
She claimed the actor tried to get back at her for quitting by forcing her to repay a $185 000 loan she was given "as a gift" to buy a home in London in the mid-1980s.
Barrett insisted Brando had told her he would instruct his lawyers to cancel the promissory note shortly after the London home was sold in 1990.
The woman said she had worked for Brando as his personal assistant without incident until retiring in 2001, and turned down his repeated pleas to reconsider her retirement.
She claims Brando he told her he never expected the loan to be repaid.
