Los Angeles - Ben Affleck has spoken of his split from Jennifer Lopez saying the last few months have been a "pretty sad time".
The pair broke up last year with Lopez blaming Affleck's reluctance to make a commitment and his love of gambling.
Affleck, 31, says he's still bruised by what happened and misses Lopez.
He told the Daily Mirror: "It's always painful to acknowledge the absence of someone who's been a major part of your life.
"You go through a lot of self-examination and a certain amount of self-pity until you just get fed up with wallowing in the past and realise you have to move on with your life.
"It's sad and strange what happened to our relationship.
"There wasn't one thing that precipitated the break-up, but you never realise how serious the problems are until it's probably too late to repair things.
"Certainly all the attention that was focused on us didn't help. It does make you more sensitive to how your relationship is becoming a media event instead of something private.
"We still talk on the phone. Fortunately, we're on good terms and there is no bitterness or animosity."
He's promoting his latest film, Jersey Girl, which stars his ex.
"Jen is only in the movie for 10 or 12 minutes. And now we've got nothing but trouble for it," he said.
But, the actor says he's "doing fine" at the moment.
