Buffy takes on Alice

Los Angeles - Buffy the Vampire Slayer is turning her sights on the Mad Hatter, after actress Sarah Michelle Gellar signed on to play Alice in Wonderland in a new movie, the industry press said on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old who battled the living dead in the hit television series will star in a dark new movie adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic book produced by Univeral Pictures and based on a video game featuring his famous characters, Daily Variety said.
Marcus Nispel, who made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, will direct the adaptation of the game Alice which picks up after her home is destroyed and her family killed, forcing her to return to Wonderland to confront her fears.
The latest journey through the looking glass, a far cry from Carroll's innocent version, will be produced by Julie Yorn of Firm Films and Scott Faye of Collision Entertainment, according to the entertainment industry bible.
In Buffy, which ran from 1997 to 2003 and became a cult favourite, Gellar played a high school student with a special gift for combating and triumphing over the dark powers of the undead.
