Johannesburg - Pop star Brenda Fassie narrowly escaped death when three suspects stormed her posh Buccleuch house and robbed her at gunpoint on Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson captain Schalk Bornman said the three stormed Fassie's house early in the morning and held her up.
"One of the suspects produced a firearm and pointed it at Fassie. They took her music system and DVD before they fled the scene on foot," said Bornman.
Fassie's manager, Peter Snyman, said the suspects fired one shot through the window.
"Fassie is still traumatised by the incident that nearly robbed her of her life. She will go for counselling today (Monday) because they abused her physically.
"They pulled a necklace by force from her neck and they were aggressive towards her," said Snyman.
A weeping Fassie said she kept on praying during the whole incident.
"I kept on saying, why me, Lord, as they beat me up, strangled me and demanded that I give them money.
"These people knew where I was in the house. Even my dogs didn't bark.
"When I woke up in the morning the dogs were shivering. It was as if they had given them something.
"Somebody is out there to kill me and I know they are coming back. I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight," she said in her husky voice.
Mabrr said they shot at her twice and one of the guys checked on her when she lay still. "I think he thought I was finished."
The star also said she was attacked when she returned from a London trip recently on her way to the studio were her son, Bongani, was recording.
No arrests have been made and police are investigating.
