Los Angeles - Matthew Perry, one of the stars of the hit US television show Friends, will make a small-screen comeback in a new sitcom by the creators of West Wing, the industry press said on Friday.
The show, about behind-the-scenes antics of a late night television comedy skit-show, is being made for the US NBC network by Warner Bros television and West Wing creators Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme.
Perry, 36, will play Matt Albie, a former writer for the fictional show who is asked back when its producer quits, Daily Variety said.
NBC has ordered 13 episodes of the as-yet-untitled one-hour series. It will be written and executive-produced by Sorkin, who sprang to fame as writer and creator of the mega-hot White House drama West Wing, which was cancelled this week after seven years.
"It's a demanding show requiring a great ensemble of actors," Sorkin and Schlamme told Daily Variety. "We're not casting yet, but you couldn't ask for a better start than Matthew Perry," they said.
Perry has appeared in feature films such as The Whole Nine Yards (2000) and its 2004 sequel The Whole Ten Yards, as well as in West Wing.
