Johannesburg – The magazine People last week published allegations that former Springbok player Joost van der Westhuizen has turned to a man for comfort after the breakdown of his marriage to singer Amor Vittone.
The magazine also alleged that Amor was having a lesbian affair.
Both Vittone and Van der Westhuizen indicated they would take legal action against the magazine.
Vittone upon enquiry denied having an affair with a woman and referred Rapport to her legal representative.
On behalf of Vittone, Claudio Bollo, said: "It is very clear that the magazine (People) did not take the effort to research the story properly.
"And my client was not even approached for comment. Amor is currently going through a divorce and her reputation cannot afford such wild rumours."
He confirmed that they demanded an apology and would insist on a correction. "We are also considering legal action as there are grounds for defamation."
Robert Klinkenberg, on behalf of Van der Westhuizen, said they would definitely take legal action against People.
"The allegations are devoid of all truth."
Angela Tsikoudakis, assistant editor of People, said they stood by their story and that there was nothing wrong with the article.
"We received a call from a member of the public in which allegations of the couple's homosexual and lesbian relationships were made. We made it clear in the article that these were just allegations. There are no grounds for them to sue us."
