Cape Town - "World-class accommodation. But cheap, please," was what film star Leonardo DiCaprio's company ordered during a lightning visit to Cape Town this past weekend. But it did not end there. Accommodation, transport, entertainment - everything had to be top class but without the suitably high bill.

Die Burger learned that DiCaprio and a friend, a certain Jason, turned down a R20 000 suite in one of the leading hotels, even though they could have had it for R1 200 - apparently because the suite was not called the "Presidential Suite".

"But the rooms are in the same in all respects," a source said. Even the hotel manager could not persuade the pair, who were ''either drunk or high'', to stay there.

Jason reputedly controlled the purse strings that night. While he tried to negotiate, DiCaprio played games on his cellphone. He apparently thought it was "a very cool room" and that the bed was "very nice", but Jason did not listen to his opinion.

It is speculated that they spent the night in Green Point with models, but this could not be confirmed.

It is said they were also offered a BMW 545 with a driver but the driver was soon told to leave - because they had to pay him R100 per hour after 23:00, even though they could ride around all day for free.

A sight for sore eyes

A meal at a leading restaurant was apparently rejected because the restaurant refused to let them eat free of charge.

DiCaprio and Jason were seen on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Café Caprice in Camp's Bay. According to someone who saw them, he did not look too good on Saturday. It seems he arrived at about 17:00 in a group at this popular hangout.

"Leo wore a cap and glasses," said a person who sat at the table next to the actor's. "He was unshaven and looked untidy. He was also greasy and not much to look at."

He and his friends sat eating and drinking there for about two hours and then left the restaurant.

DiCaprio and Jason left Cape Town on Sunday. ''Their brief visit was so cheap it was below the radar," the source said.

DiCaprio is currently working on The Blood Diamond which being filmed on a gigantic set at the Wild Coast Sun in the Eastern Cape.
