Cape Town - Britney Spears' boyfriend Adnan Ghalib was denied access when he tried to visit the troubled singer at the UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles on Monday.
According to celebrity gossip website X17online Ghalib arrived at the hospital with flowers and a get well soon card in the hope of seeing the fallen pop star, who is receiving treatment in the hospital's psychiatric unit.
However, according to OK! Magazine, Spears' mother Lynne refused to let Ghalib see the singer and he soon emerged from hospital "looking sad and dejected".
In the meantime, Spears has reportedly appointed a new lawyer Adam Streisand, a distant relative of singer Barbra Streisand, who has been trying to convince the court that Spears' father should not be her conservator.
'She wants her voice to be heard'
X17online reports Streisand as saying that the singer contacted him (against her father's wishes) saying that she was upset about the process and "wanted her voice to be heard". He was reportedly referred by her lawyer Trope.
"She asked me to express her desires. What she wants is to have a neutral, independent party looking over her medical care and finances. What she does not want is to have her father in control of her life," he said.
Streisand also said he believed she was lucid and that the court investigator's analysis was wrong. "In my conversation with her, she was lucid. I wouldn't be here if she wasn't."
However, a court questioned whether Streisand had been hired by Spears at all, arguing the singer was not of sound mind to hire a new lawyer.
A court spokesperson said: "The commissioner felt Mr Streisand had no standing to represent Ms Spears."
