Johannesburg - The relationship between the model Minki van der Westhuizen and the singer Pieter Smith has ended.
The two confirmed about three months ago that they were going steady and said at the time they'd already been going out for two months.
They were regularly seen in one another's company and they seemed very much in love shortly after the Crayfish Festival held in Lamberts Bay in December.
Smith said: "We broke up three days ago. Things like that happen. Things work out without any party being guilty."
He returned form London three days ago after visiting Minki.
Smith said: "It was a joint decision and neither of us is harbouring ill feelings.
"We agreed together that a relationship won't work at this stage.
"She's a very good person and I respect her.
"We're still talking to one another and we'll remain very good friends."
Smith was seen in the company of a blonde woman in a restaurant in the Menlyn shopping mall in Pretoria on Wednesday evening.
"She's just a good friend and we were actually a whole group of friends who went out together," said Smith.
Minki has been in Europe since the end of May and in London since July, where she is modelling.
Her agent, Andrew Farr, says she's going to Germany before returning to South Africa in August.
He said, on Minki's behalf, that the break between Minki and Smith had been amicable and they would remain good friends.
