Oprah goes from coast to coast

Wichita - Oprah Winfrey was in Wichita on Friday, on her coast-to-coast drive.
"We're on a cross-country junket to New York for the Tonys," said Winfrey, referring to the June 11 Tony Awards that will honour the best of American theatre. "I decided I wanted to see the USA in my Chevrolet."
Winfrey is making the trip in a red, four-door Impala. She had lunch in Dodge City before driving into Wichita on Friday afternoon.
Her impressions of western Kansas?
"I think it's flat," she said. "But I appreciate that it's flat. I love the expansiveness."
Several people waited for autographs outside the Hyatt Regency, where Winfrey and a dozen members of her crew stayed.
Stephen Fergerson, a 12-year-old from Dodge City who was in Wichita for a home-schooling convention, collected Winfrey's autograph.
"She was in a good mood," said Stephen, surprised that a celebrity would stop and sign an autograph. "She was in a hurry. When my mom and dad are in a hurry, they barely even talk to me."
