Beijing - Former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson will spearhead an anti-fur campaign in China, appearing naked on billboards in Beijing and Shanghai, animal rights group Peta said on Wednesday.
Anderson, a longtime fur foe, appears nude from the waist up covered only by her strategically placed arms next to the tagline "Give Fur the Cold Shoulder".
"I'm perfectly happy to bare my skin if it will help save animals skins," said Anderson.
"With so many fashionable and comfortable fur alternatives available today, there's no excuse for killing animals and stealing their skins."
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) said it was launching a campaign "soon" in China because the fur industry was seeking to exploit the country's burgeoning economy.
"Not only has China seen a rise in fur sales domestically, it has also become the leading exporter of fur garments to the United States, accounting for 40% of total US fur imports in 2000 valued at nearly six million dollars," it said.
Other Hollywood celebrities who have appeared in Peta anti-fur ads around the world include Kim Basinger, Charlize Theron and Christina Applegate.
