Stockholm - Canadian-American actress Pamela Anderson sent a letter to Swedish Prime Minister Goeran Persson this week urging him to ban fur farming, media here reported on Thursday.
"You should know that many people in the world look up to Sweden. Banning the fur industry will strengthen Sweden's reputation further," wrote the Baywatch heroine and avid animal rights activist in her letter, which was published in the Swedish daily, Expressen.
"I am impressed by how far Sweden has come when it comes to gender equality, justice in society and environmental work.
"I also know that many people in your country are opposed to the fur industry.
"Stopping this terrible practice is, therefore, a natural step for Sweden," she added, pointing out how much animals that were bred for their fur suffered.
Persson's spokesperson Anna Helsen told Expressen the prime minister would probably answer Anderson's letter, although it could take time.
Anderson's Swedish ex-boyfriend Markus Schenkenberg wrote a similar letter to Persson two weeks ago, according to another Swedish daily, Aftonbladet.
