Johannesburg - The German erotic thriller in which Patricia Lewis apparently appears can now be ordered via the internet for the first time.

A Stellenbosch student has already ordered copies of the film from a German website and is distributing it among his friends.

The film was made in South Africa in 1996 for a German television station.

It wasn't available on the market earlier and South Africans have not been able to view it thus far.

Dark Desires: The other side of the moon - also known as Fanette - is part of the Dark Desires series that was issued on DVD in Germany.

South African actress Elzette Maarschalk, who appeared in the popular soap opera 7de Laan among others, also features in the series.

The film starts with a steaming scene in which a naked, blonde woman tosses her hair around - just like Lewis does it on stage - in a simulated sex scene.

The actress in this scene looks and is built like her, but Lewis maintains it's not her. "I was uncomfortable with the nude scenes and a double was arranged to stand in for me," she says. "I wasn't there when they shot it, but heard they used a girl with a very beautiful body."

In another scene, Lewis appears in a shower gown and kisses a topless woman. She does not deny appearing in this scene.

Lewis says she never saw the movie and it had very little dialogue in it. When she spoke, it was in English, but the final product was dubbed into German. The DVD also does not have a subtitle option.

"It looks like her to me," the student, who apparently ordered "a couple" of the DVDs, says. "Nobody can toss their hair like Patricia can. I would like to burn (copy) the DVD for a few friends of mine."

A television producer, who watched the DVD on Tuesday, said the woman, referred to as Laureen Lean in the credits, "looks remarkably" like Lewis. He did not want to be named.

"There is no way that you can put a face or picture on the moving body of a double.

"That type of technology (to do so) wasn't available then and it isn't available now."
