Pete Doherty confesses all

2007-11-13 16:34
line

London - Pete Doherty has admitted he was "on a direct course for death, bankruptcy and madness" if he continued taking class A drugs.

The troubled singer - who was pictured injecting heroin into his arm last week, just days after vowing he was clean - has made the candid confession in an extract taken from his rehab diary.

Pete kept the diary during his six-week stay at Wiltshire's Clouds House rehabilitation clinic which he started in August.

He wrote: "If I had not been chemically dependent my life would have been extremely manageable. No jail, no rehab, normal functioning relationships and a lucrative, respectable career. I would probably own a house, a driving licence and have a better reputation.

'I am likely to die'

"If I don't pack in drugs, particularly crack and heroin, I am likely to either die, go bankrupt, go mad or end up permanently institutionalised. I'm on a direct course for all four."

Pete - whose relationship with model Kate Moss ended because of his drug-taking habits - also wrote about how he has missed out on a relationship with his four-year-old son, Astile, from a previous relationship with British singer Lisa Moorish.

He continued: "My baby's mother has always kept my son at a distance in the light of my active addiction. This has caused me severe loss in terms of missing out on a potentially beautiful relationship with the youngster."

The diary entry was released to Britain's The Sun newspaper by a friend of the singer, who was shocked into action by the pictures of Pete using heroin last week.

The friend said: "I want this in the public domain because I want Pete to remember how determined he was to get clean and stay clean. It was awful to see him back using heroin last week.

"He really needs help. Pete desperately wants to sort himself out, but he can't give up drugs."

Relapse

The 28-year-old's relapse comes just weeks after a magistrate let him off the six months left on his two-year drug treatment order after he tested negative in court-ordered drugs tests for crack cocaine and heroin.

He was arrested last December while carrying heroin, crack cocaine, cannabis resin and cannabis, and was arrested again in January while in possession of heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis.

Less than three weeks ago Pete was given a four-month suspended sentence and a 12-month drug rehabilitation order in relation to his May arrest for driving illegally while in possession of drugs in West London.

In a statement from record company EMI last week, Pete promised fans he will return to rehab to beat his addictions once and for all. - Bang Showbiz.com
