London - A judge on Wednesday released rock musician Pete Doherty from a drug treatment order, ending 18 months of supervision.
Judge Jane McIvor said she had been assured that that the treatment plan already in place for Doherty would continue.
"There is no need for statutory supervision or state funding," she said in Thames Magistrates Court.
Outside court, Doherty told reporters that he intended to stay free of drugs.
"It's just the beginning, you know what I mean. My life has changed," he said.
Doherty, 28, best known as on-off boyfriend of model Kate Moss, has admitted possessing crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine, as well as two driving offences.
