Hong Kong - US movie star Renee Zellweger will star in a Hollywood remake of the Hong Kong horror movie The Eye, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The Eye, an Applause Pictures production directed by twin brothers Oxide and Danny Pang, tells the story of a young woman who sees the visions of the dead woman whose corneas she inherited in a transplant.
The Hollywood version will be produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner, the South China Morning Post reported.
Applause Pictures spokesperson Esther Koo confirmed the company has sold the remake rights to The Eye to Paramount Pictures and that Applause founder, director Peter Chan, will serve as executive producer of the new movie. Koo didn't have further details.
The Post said Japan's Hideo Nakata will direct the film. Nakata directed the Japanese horror film Ringu, which was remade as the The Ring, starring Naomi Watts.
